With over 30 years of experience as a business advisor, teacher and facilitator working with family business owners internationally, Peter is seen as the “founding father” of family business thinking in the UK and has worked with hundreds of business families around the world, specialising in working with multi-generational family businesses on governance issues.
Peter is author of “Family Enterprises: The Essentials”, published by Profile Books and co-author of “Indian Family Business Mantras” published by Rupa Publishing. He is also frequently quoted in the UK national and international press, and lectures at business schools and universities all over the world.
Peter’s clients are very diverse, such as large UK family businesses, conglomerates in India, multigenerational businesses in the Middle East and Pakistan, and Irish multiple sibling partnerships.
Peter’s focus of work is usually around helping families become aligned around their vision for the future and advising on family governance, structure and assisting with the creation and implementation of family constitutions.
Holding the position of Adjunct Professor in Family Business at Imperial College London, he is also Chairman of the Advisory Board of the UK Institute for Family Business, and is a Fellow of the Family Firm Institute of the USA, the international body for family business advisers. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Peter is a Partner in Deloitte LLP and Deloitte Global Leader of the Family Enterprise Consulting practice.
In 2010, he was awarded the Family Business Place Red Ribbon Award for his outstanding contribution to the field of family business. In 2011 he was awarded the Richard Beckhard Award from the Family Firm Institute, which recognises outstanding contribution to the field of family business, and in 2013 he was named Family Business Advisor of the year at the STEP Private Client Awards.
When he is not dealing with family businesses, Peter can usually be found on a boat.
