Last night we hosted our first Sandaire event of the year, at 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, home to the British Academy for the Humanities and Social Sciences. Titled ‘Top Questions that Families of Wealth Ask’, the evening seminar was organised to answer some of the questions that are at the forefront of the minds of families of significant wealth.
10-11 Carlton House Terrace offered the perfect backdrop, once the former home of Prime Minister William Gladstone and now home for the British Academy who moved to this distinguished building to extend its work encouraging academic excellence.
The Lee Library room is where the event was held and amongst the many books written by fellows of the Academy and other academics, on the evening you could find the book ‘Wealth of Wisdom: The top 50 questions families of wealth ask’. Written by none other than our very own panellist, Tom McCullough who answered questions around what made him write the book and why it is made up of a series of questions.
On the evening Tom was joined by Peter Leach and Juliette Johnson, industry experts in directly managing family wealth who also gave their insights into the subjects of children and money, planning and leaving a legacy. Caroline Burkhart, partner of Scorpio market research into Ultra High Net Worth Individuals was also there to give some hard facts and statistics on the topics of conversation.
Throughout the evening there were discussions on topics such as the transfer of wealth across generations, shifting definitions of family, globalisation, evolving family dynamics, philanthropy endeavours and how to manage conversations with children on wealth.
We would like to thank our panellists and guests for attending the evening and further insights into the conversation will be shared in due course in the form of our new series of ‘On Air with Sandaire’ podcasts and videos, so stay tuned.
