Aphorism No.1

The origins of perfectionism lie in the ease with which we can conjure up a picture of an ideal state of affairs. The problem is that once perfection is imagined, reality, however nice, will start to look somewhat drab. We should resolutely aim to have a moderately nice Christmas — so that all the nice-but-somewhat-awkward bits will feel pleasant instead of being a let-down.
